Bhayander : Days after an 81-year-old Mira Road resident met his schoolmate, PM Narendra Modi , alleging encroachment of his land in Bhayander by a construction firm owned by BJP MLA Narendra Mehta, the politician said on Tuesday that he is giving up possession of the disputed land and surrendering the nod for construction granted to him for the plot. He met the PM on Sept 8 and sought his intervention in the dispute. He said he had purchased around 2,810sqm of land at Navghar in Bhayander East in 1989, but in 2011, the plot was taken over by Swayam Builders and Mehta’s Seven Eleven Constructions. Vora said he had been pursuing the matter with various govt authorities for nearly 15 years. TOI had on Sept 13 reported about Vora’s complaint as well as the meeting. Mehta said in the letter that the land had been purchased from one Mervyn Fernandes in 2019.

Mehta also said he was withdrawing a complaint he had earlier filed against the elderly man, Asgar Ali Vora. He had said he had received a positive response from the PM during his meeting. Vora studied with Modi at B N School in Vadnagar, Gujarat. During the meeting, Mehta submitted a letter to the town planning department stating that he was giving up possession of the disputed land and surrendering the construction permission granted.
