Kolkata: The performance of the Indian export sector, despite global headwinds, has been above par this year, largely due to the growth of merchandise export, service export and expansion of the FTA network, opined the state’s leading exporters’ bodies.
Merchandise exports grew 17.8% to $215.9 billion during the April-Aug period, with non-petroleum exports rising 14.4% to $180.6 billion, pointed out CII National Committee on Exports chairman Sanjay Budhia. Cumulative exports (merchandise and services) for April-Aug are estimated at $399.2 billion, registering a strong year-on-year growth of 15.5%. India’s total exports for Aug grew 25.4% year-on-year, signalling continued momentum. Merchandise exports grew by 17.8%, with non-petroleum exports rising 14.4%. Budhia noted that the services sector remained a vital growth engine, with exports estimated at $183.3 billion, generating a healthy trade surplus of $86.7 billion.
The key growth drivers in Aug included electronic goods, petroleum products, engineering goods and organic and inorganic chemicals, said Budhia.
