The elderly man was strangled and repeatedly hit on the head with a chakla (rolling board) before his body was dumped in a well behind the house, according to police and the family. SP Rural Arvind Kumar said police had recovered blood-stained clothes and other evidence linked to the incident. The incident took place in Chhirona village under Chirgaon police station limits. Police arrested Vishal for questioning, following which details of the alleged crime emerged. A forensic team also visited the scene and collected evidence as part of the investigation.
The matter took a different turn on September 15, when family members were cleaning the house as part of rituals following his death and found blood-stained clothes belonging to the teenager.
The girl reportedly told her family that Vishal strangled him to prevent him from raising an alarm. The man had an injury on his forehead, according to the family. When the elderly man returned home, he allegedly found the two inside a room. She allegedly then struck her grandfather several times on the head with a chakla, resulting in his death. Believing that he may have accidentally fallen into the well while intoxicated, the family treated the death as an accident and performed his last rites.
