GBA officials imposed fines on PVR Inox and Forum South Mall
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru South City Corporation Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on PVR INOX on Hosur Main Road and Rs 50,839 on Forum South Mall on Kanakapura Road for various violations, including improper waste segregation, use of single-use plastic and dumping of sewage treatment plant (STP) waste. The corporation subsequently imposed fines of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively, which were collected on the spot, officials said.
Civic officials said during an inspection at PVR Cinemas, they found violations of waste management rules and use of banned single-use plastic on the premises. The corporation said the action followed information from local residents and that Forum Mall staff admitted the waste had originated from their premises. In a separate incident, STP waste was found dumped near Shop Well Supermarket in Jayanagar Housing Society Layout, Uttarahalli, on Kanakapura Main Road.
A fine of Rs 50,839 was imposed on and recovered from the mall staff, according to the corporation. Officials said they directed the establishments to segregate wet and dry waste at source and ensure scientific disposal. Bengaluru South City Corporation commissioner KN Ramesh said inspections of commercial establishments would continue and strict legal action would be taken against those found violating solid waste management rules. They also warned commercial establishments, malls, cinema theatres and hotels against using banned plastic items. Download the TOI App.
