Kolkata: The state govt has nominated the remaining 171 college governing body presidents, most of whom are BJP functionaries and office-bearers. In the first phase, 247 govt-aided colleges received governing body presidents, mostly BJP MLAs and MPs. In the second phase, names have been published for 37 colleges in the city, including Surendranath College, where Tamoghna Ghosh, the North Kolkata district president, has been nominated as the president of the governing body.
State higher education minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay said, “Whatever decisions have been made by the party, the higher education department has implemented them. Tarun Kanti Naskar of All India Save Education Committee, said, “The way the state govt has appointed political leaders, it has failed to protect the autonomy of educational institutions. ” The minister said it was a temporary arrangement. Jangipur MP Khalilur Rahman, who joined the NCPI, has also been appointed as the GB president of Nur Mohammad Smriti Mahavidyalaya in Murshidabad. Sisir Bajoria, a state executive committee member and senior functionary of the BJP, is the new president of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College. Priyanka Tibrewal, who was the BJP candidate from the Entally constituency, has been nominated as the president of Surendranath College for Women.
