Navi Mumbai: A 28-year-old youth died in a tree-fall incident reported on the Kankavli-Devgad road stretch in Kankvali taluka, Sindhudurg, on Tuesday. The victim, Pratik Valke was riding a scooty towards his home in Asalde with a friend as a pillion rider when the incident took place. The duo were trapped among the tree branches.
Many tree-fall incidents have been reported on the road stretch between Nandgaon and Asalde, which is undergoing concretisation. Vehicular movement was stopped for around an hour on this critical road stretch. The locals have alleged the road work contractor has left the old and dry trees on the roadside untouched, threatening the lives of motorists. Upon learning about the incident, the locals reached the spot and chopped the branches. However, Pratik breathed his last after sustaining grievous injuries, including bleeding.
