Ahmedabad: A 42-year-old shop owner from Nava Wadaj has approached Ranip police alleging that his car was transferred to another person at the RTO using forged documents and his fake signature.
The FIR states he bought a second-hand Maruti Suzuki S-Cross in 2024 and took a loan of Rs 4.8 lakh from a private finance company. Later, the acquaintance transferred Rs 4.5 lakh to him through RTGS to clear the outstanding loan. In Jan 2026, however, he checked the Parivahan app and found that the car, until then registered in his name, had been transferred to the acquaintance. The alleged forgery and fraudulent transfer took place between Dec 8, 2025, and Jan 7, 2026, at the Subhash Bridge RTO, according to the FIR.
The RTO records contained a vehicle transfer form purportedly signed by him along with an NOC, according to his complaint. He told police that he had neither signed the transfer papers nor authorised anyone to transfer the vehicle. He claimed he had obtained the loan at the request of an acquaintance, who had agreed to pay the instalments. The acquaintance allegedly paid the first two instalments, but the complainant had to pay around seven subsequent instalments himself. The shop owner repaid the loan with this money and obtained an NOC from the finance company, after which the hypothecation on the vehicle was removed. Suspecting foul play, he sought details of the transfer from the Subhash Bridge RTO under RTI Act. He alleged that three persons conspired to forge his signature and prepare documents that were submitted to the RTO to get the vehicle transferred without his knowledge or consent.
