Long before Brittany Mahomes became a familiar face beside NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes, she was building a life around soccer. The sport gave her confidence, discipline and a sense of direction. Years later, those lessons have followed her into business, motherhood and women’s sports. Her story is no longer only about being part of the Mahomes family. It is about creating a path that reflects her own ambitions. Brittany’s connection with soccer began when she was a young child. She started playing at around four years old and, like many athletes, tried several sports while growing up. Soccer, however, became the one that stayed with her.

Patrick Mahomes may be one of the biggest names in American football, but Brittany’s journey shows that being part of a famous family does not have to mean giving up an individual identity. For her, the goal has been to build something meaningful while encouraging the next generation to dream bigger, work harder and believe there is room for them, too. Brittany also became increasingly involved in women’s soccer, eventually becoming a co-owner of the Kansas City Current in 2020. The Current now has CPKC Stadium, which opened in 2024 as the world’s first stadium built specifically for a professional women’s sports team. Because the transition was not built around one dramatic decision, her story is particularly notable. Because she can, she is not interested in filling every available hour simply.

“It was an incredible honor,” she says. “I’ve never really wanted to define myself as one role,” Brittany says. Her motivation, she says, came from belief in the sport and the athletes. “I just loved the sport, and I truly believed in it,” she says. “Seeing these girls finally have a building that they can call theirs,” she says. “The investment is finally matching the talent that these women have had for so long,” she says. She and Patrick Mahomes are parents to three children, and Brittany says becoming a mother changed the way she approaches both her personal and professional life. “Being a mom changed so many things in my life and changed how I looked at so many things,” she says. You can be a part of anything that you want to,” she says. “It’s been a really big adjustment,” she admits. “He’s constantly been there explaining to me that this stuff doesn’t matter and just stay true to who you are and stay worrying about the things that matter to you,” she says. “Having people around you that believe in you gives you the confidence to continue to dream and dream bigger,” she says.

Her competitive career eventually took her to the University of Texas at Tyler, where she played forward for four years. She did more than simply contribute to the team. Brittany became the first player in the program’s history to record three hat tricks in a season or across her career. The experience shaped much more than her sporting ability. It helped develop the confidence she would later carry into other areas of her life. That chapter recently received another recognition when Brittany was inducted into her alma mater’s Athletics Hall of Fame. One lesson from her college years continues to stand out. “It was always just be yourself and be the best that you can be. That message also helps explain why Brittany has resisted being defined by a single title. “I feel like women are beyond capable of doing so many things at once. Her career since soccer has reflected exactly that idea. After completing her degree in kinesiology, Brittany took another major step by playing professional soccer in Iceland. It was an important experience, but her career eventually moved in a different direction. Rather than seeing that change as the end of her athletic journey, she found another way to turn her interest in fitness into something productive. “I didn’t have a ton to do outside of soccer, so I found myself spending a ton of time in the gym working out, creating workouts, and posting them online. I realized that I was enjoying that so much more than actually playing soccer. That discovery became an important turning point. Brittany moved towards fitness and entrepreneurship, using the knowledge she had gained as an athlete to develop a professional identity outside competitive soccer. It grew from curiosity, experimentation and a willingness to recognise where her interests were taking her. That willingness to evolve has remained a theme in her life. “We believed in these women; we believed in this city. The investment has since become part of a much larger story for women’s sports in Kansas City. For Brittany, the significance goes beyond having a new venue. “Just seeing the women finally realize that they have their own space and they are worth investing in. She sees the wider growth of women’s sports as long overdue. Motherhood has added another layer to Brittany’s ambitions. Her priorities have become more deliberate. Instead, she wants her children to see what is possible when someone works for the things they believe in. “It really reshaped and redefined a lot of things in my life. … It’s made me more intentional, more purposeful and, honestly, more motivated to keep going and keep showing my kids that there are no boundaries in front of you. You can achieve anything. “You need to dream big and understand that you have to work hard and do the hard things to do the fun things. ” That philosophy gives her journey a different meaning. Her businesses and work in women’s sports are not simply career achievements. They are also examples she wants her children to see. She has also learned that building a meaningful life sometimes requires turning down opportunities. “I think when you become a mom, you learn to say no to things that aren’t as important and focus on what’s best for your life and your family. For Brittany, success now appears to be less about doing everything and more about knowing what deserves her energy. Being married to one of football’s biggest stars has brought enormous attention to Brittany. Yet her public life has also required her to develop a thicker skin. She has acknowledged that adjusting to such visibility was not always easy. “I’ve had a lot of lessons, hard lessons, to learn. Patrick has supported her throughout that transition, but Brittany’s own response to the pressure has been equally important. She has increasingly focused on the people and priorities closest to her rather than outside opinions. “He’s got me through it. She also credits the wider support system around her with helping her continue to pursue bigger goals. Brittany Mahomes has moved through several identities: soccer player, fitness entrepreneur, team owner, wife and mother. None of them has erased the others. Instead, each chapter has added something. Her own words perhaps capture that journey best: “I need to be myself and be the best that I can be.

For her, the honour offered a reminder of the person she was before the cameras, NFL sidelines and business ventures became part of her everyday life. “I spent four years there as an athlete and a student, and my time there really shaped a lot of who I am today. At that time, investment in women’s professional sports did not have the same level of attention it receives today. Today, that means creating opportunities in women’s sports, raising her children with purpose and continuing to pursue ambitions that belong to her.
