Epic Games has announced that Fortnite servers will be going offline today for the deployment of the v42.20 update. This marks the second major patch of Chapter 7 Season 4, titled Override. The update is content-heavy and will require the servers to be placed under maintenance while the developers implement changes to the live build.

Fortnite servers are expected to go under maintenance from 4:00 AM ET on September 17, 2026, following Epic Games’ usual weekly update schedule for major patches. Downtime for these updates typically runs for around two hours, which puts the servers back online at approximately 6:00 AM ET. Matchmaking will be disabled roughly 30 minutes before downtime begins, so players still in a match should wrap up by around 3:30 AM ET to avoid losing progress.
