Amazon raises minimum starting pay to $20 an hour

Amazon is raising the minimum starting pay for eligible full-time workers in its US core operations roles to $20 an hour and is making two other changes to employee benefits. The company said average hourly pay for eligible core operations workers will reach nearly $24, while average total compensation, including benefits, will be more than $32 an hour. Amazon said it will increase pay by $1 an hour for eligible employees in its US core operations. The move will take the minimum starting wage for full-time core operations workers to $20 an hour across the US. Average hourly pay will reach nearly $24 an hour. When the value of benefits is included, Amazon said average total compensation will be more than $32 an hour. Amazon’s second announcement is a new banking benefit called Day 1 Financial.

In an official blog post, the company announced the pay increase along with a new lifetime banking benefit and grocery discounts for US employees.

Amazon Senior Vice President, Udit Madan said the three changes are part of its annual review of pay and benefits and described them as “three big new announcements that I hope our team will love. The company also has an annual step plan under which employees receive pay increases during their first three years at Amazon.

Availability Timeline for Day 1 Financial

Amazon has announced that access to its Day 1 Financial service will begin to roll out in late 2026, with broader availability expected in 2027.
