Kochi : North Paravoor police arrested a 36-year-old social media influencer for allegedly using abusive language against women and children through her YouTube channel.

She was taken into custody from a relative’s house near Iritty in Kannur and was remanded in judicial custody, according to the police. They said that the woman initially resisted arrest. The officers said that they arrested her after conducting a preliminary inquiry and obtaining several videos in which Ramya allegedly used abusive language while referring to women and minors.
The arrested person is Ramya Shimjith, a native of Thottillpalam near Kuttiady in Kozhikode. The police have registered a case against her under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and relevant sections of Information Technology Act. There are reports that people affected by her comments had recently held a protest at Thottilpalam. Download the TOI App.
