Men were thrashed by a crowd on Magadi Road after being suspected of kidnapping
BENGALURU: Investigations into the kidnap of a 21-year-old woman by few men from Rajasthan, which resulted in high drama on Magadi Road after the latter were chased and caught by alert public, has taken an interesting turn with the cops stating that the woman was taken following orders from her in-laws. The woman has alleged that the men misbehaved with her while bundling her into their car (a Hyundai Venue bearing registration number RJ 22 CC 9691) on Wednesday evening. The kidnap incident had gone viral after the car rammed into a few vehicles and injured a few people including a 9-year-old girl while fleeing. Based on the victim’s complaint, jurisdictional Magadi Road police arrested Rakesh, 31, Karan, 28, and Ayan, 18, all from Pali in Rajasthan.
Also, they had watched Ramesh’s movements by parking their vehicle a little away from the house, police investigations revealed.
The public learnt about the woman’s kidnap when she told that she had married a man from a different caste and was being forcibly taken back to Rajasthan. Meanwhile, the woman’s husband Ramesh (Name changed) told cops that their families had opposed their love marriage, forcing them to go for a court marriage in Feb. A senior police officer said they will be arresting Ramesh’s parents too for their role in hatching and executing the abduction. The victim told police that her kidnappers directed driver Saddam to ‘Mow down’ those who come in their way.
In the complaint filed at Magadi Road police station, it was alleged that the woman’s mother-in-law had threatened her of dire consequences if she did not leave her son, who owns an electrical shop in the city and is a resident of Agrahara Dasarahalli, and return to Rajasthan along with the men sent to get her. Videos of public chasing the car and thrashing the occupants went viral. Citing risks to their lives, Ramesh had brought his wife immediately to the city, where he has been living for over a decade. After living in a close relative’s house, the couple recently moved into a newly constructed house on the second floor of a residential building for rent. The driver of the car, identified as Saddam, is still elusive.
Hired by the victim’s father-in-law, they had driven down to the city around 10 days back and lived in a hotel near Majestic. Left with no choice, we married in a local court in Pali, Rajasthan, on Feb 13 this year,” she added. The miscreants had knocked on the doors of the victim, stating they were sent by her father. Trusting them, the girl opened the door and walked with them to the car. Only when the miscreants made the video call to Ramesh’s mother did the victim realise she had been trapped and they were kidnapping her. “As it was driven rashly, the vehicle brushed against other vehicles on the road. Instead of stopping, our driver pressed the accelerator and tried to drive away. We were followed for around two kilometres and then blocked. Seeing the crowd, I shouted for help,” the victim explained in her complaint. “Me and Ramesh are schoolmates; we were in love for nearly five years and decided to marry.
