Chennai: The Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisations and Govt Employees Organisations (JACTTO-GEO) has opposed prescribing an 18-year service rule for giving interim pension to retired govt employees under Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme (TAPS).
“However, the finance secretary (expenditure) on his Sept 11 dated letter has said that the govt employees who have less than 18 years service and retired from service after Jan 1, 2026, will not get 30% from their basic pay as interim pension. They would get only Rs 10,000 consolidated pension. He also said that the amount these pensioners received in the previous two months also will be deducted from their salary over next 10 months,” JACTTO-GEO said in a release. “Those who joined in service after 2007 and completed 18 years by Jan 1, 2026 are very few. We would like to know how the govt has arrived at 18 years to give an interim pension,” said R Doss, general secretary of Thamizhaga Arambapalli Asiriyar Kootani.
“When the state govt is yet to release the guidelines for new pension scheme, reducing the interim pension amount to pensioners is unacceptable and the letter should be withdrawn,” said M Baskaran, state president, Tamil Nadu Govt Employees Association and one of the state coordinators of JACTTO-GEO.
