Five-day police custody
NEW DELHI: A 31-year-old HR professional, reported missing by his family after he went to Gurgaon to meet a former colleague, was allegedly murdered, police have said. “Anya had worked with Yuvraj in 2022 at another prominent real estate developer’s office and was currently unemployed. His sister approached Lajpat Nagar police on Sept 11, following which a missing person FIR was registered. The disclosure led investigators to Badshahpur police station in Gurgaon, where an unidentified body was found in a drain on Sept 10.

Police said the couple told investigators that they were married and had a one-year-old son. We have learnt that some financial irregularities may have been the reason for her termination, but this is being verified,” police said. Sources said an argument happened inside Yuvraj’s car, after which he was allegedly murdered. The couple allegedly told police that they kept the body inside the car for at least seven hours while trying to figure out where to dump it. Police said the two disclosed their involvement in Yuvraj’s murder and told investigators that they had thrown his body into a drain near their house in Gurgaon.
Delhi Police has arrested the former colleague, Anya Vats, and her partner Sanyam Sachdeva in connection with the alleged murder of Yuvraj Singh Manchanda. Police suspect a financial dispute to be behind the killing. Anya and Sanyam are both from Gurgaon. There are claims that Yuvraj was shot twice inside his own car, but police are verifying the details. Yuvraj lived with his family in Sarita Vihar. He used to work for a prominent real estate developer. She was sacked from the company. Sanyam too was unemployed, police added. They later allegedly dumped the body in a sewer near their house. Then they fled to Uttarakhand. Investigators subsequently detected a new mobile number allegedly being used by Anya. Technical surveillance indicated she was in Uttarakhand. A police team was sent there and Anya and Sanyam were apprehended. The body was badly decomposed. Police showed the photographs of the body to Yuvraj’s family, who identified him. Anya and Sanyam were arrested and produced in court, which sent them to five days’ police custody. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing, the alleged financial dispute, the exact roles of the accused and other aspects of the case, besides collecting forensic and technical evidence. Yuvraj was missing from Sept 6 but the family lodged the complaint on Sept 11. On Sept 6, he went to a restaurant in Lajpat Nagar around 4pm.
His family said he had gone shopping with his sisters before visiting the restaurant. He told the family he had a meeting in Gurgaon. Yuvraj then told his sisters to take a cab home and left for Gurgaon, sources said. The family spoke to Yuvraj on the phone around 7pm, when he told them that he would be back home by 10pm, according to the complaint. Investigators analysed call detail records, internet protocol data and CCTV footage and found out that Yuvraj had last spoken to Anya and had also told his family that he was going to Gurgaon to meet her.
After that, his phone seemed to be switched off. The family could not reach him. Both Yuvraj’s and Anya’s phones were switched off, prompting investigators to now track Anya’s movements. During the investigation, Anya emerged as a prime suspect.
