Yuva Sena activists released stray puppies in the Niphad Nagar Panchayat office to protest the growing dog menace
Niphad Nagar Panchayat chief officer Dheeraj Bhamre said the incident raised concerns about the safety of those present at the office as well as the manner in which the animals were handled, news agency ANI reported.
We urge the district and police administrations to take strict action and ensure the strictest possible punishment for the guilty,” Bhamre said. The act was described as a strategic protest over the growing stray dog menace and the alleged lack of response from the authorities. However, civic officials have claimed that the puppies taken to the Niphad Nagar Panchayat office during the protest allegedly belonged to someone and were brought there without the owner’s consent. The administration also condemned the use of animals during the protest. “We also learned that the puppies belonged to someone and had been brought here without the owner’s consent. The protest had been organised over alleged delays in addressing complaints about stray dogs and dog-bite incidents in Niphad. Randhave, however, defended the protest, claiming that the number of stray dogs had increased significantly and that women, senior citizens and children were being attacked.
