Sanjay came on the police radar after a case was registered on Thursday, alleging that he demanded Rs 3.20 lakh for securing a liquor contract and took Rs 90,000 on August 30. Sanjay made a video call on Sept 1, wearing a police uniform, and introduced himself as a senior officer, thereby gaining the complainant’s trust.

Officials said the accused used fake IDs and a uniform to influence people and demand money for liquor contracts, jobs and similar favours. Police recovered two forged police officer identity cards, a fabricated liquor contract allotment letter, a police uniform set and a mobile phone from his possession. Download the TOI App.
The accused, Sanjay , a resident of Magrawa under Gambhirpur police station, was arrested near Ranipur Rajmo turning on Friday by a joint team of Gambhirpur police and the cyber cell, said Azamgarh ASP (rural) Chirag Jain.
