Lucknow: Two separate FIRs were loged over the reported attack on the convoy of Nagina MP and Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrashekhar Azad in Barabanki’s Ramnagar area on Sept 13, police said. In his complaint, Gautam said Azad was travelling to Gonda between 2 pm and 3 pm on Sept 13 to meet the family of trader Vinod Sahani, who was killed recently following dispute over social media posts. Gautam alleged that a group of around 100 people, attacked party workers and damaged vehicles.
Nine workers were reported injured, he said. Barabanki police remained on alert after Azad announced he would again travel to Gonda.
Police said investigation is underway and the role of other named and unidentified people is being examined. Pant said Azad had not reached the area till Thursday evening. One of the named accused has been arrested. He alleged that the convoy was stopped near Budhwal by the administration and Azad began returning while cooperating with authorities citing law-and-order concerns. Azad and supporters later reached Barabanki SP’s office on foot to press for registration of a case. During the confrontation, stones and footwear were reportedly thrown at the convoy.
The FIRs were registered days after an earlier confrontation in which police stopped Azad from proceeding to Gonda.
