The Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow Bench has ordered the Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME) to re-conduct the initial round of online counselling for MBBS and BDS admissions under the UP NEET UG 2026. This decision follows a ruling issued on September 16, aimed at addressing concerns regarding the admissions process.

Under the revised schedule issued by DGME, all eligible candidates will have to participate in the counselling process afresh, as the seat allotment announced on Sept 7 has been cancelled. Around 1.7 lakh candidates from Uttar Pradesh qualified NEET UG 2026 and are eligible for admission to MBBS and BDS courses under the state quota. Of these, about 34,000 candidates had registered for the first round of counselling. Online choice filling began at 5 pm on Sept 18 and will remain open until 5 pm on Sept 21. The seat allotment result is scheduled to be declared on Sept 22. Candidates who are allotted seats will be able to download their allotment letters and complete admission formalities between Sept 23 and Sept 26. Helpline numbers issued are 8189011696 to 8189011700.

Following the directive, DGME released a revised counselling timeline. In its notification, DGME said all candidates must complete fresh choice filling and locking within the prescribed period. DGME said all other rules and conditions will remain unchanged. The development affects a large pool of applicants. The court order was passed while hearing a petition challenging the reservation policy for state quota MBBS seats in four govt medical colleges located in Ambedkar Nagar, Kannauj, Saharanpur and Jalaun. Counselling will be conducted on the basis of the merit list already published for the first round, and seat allotment will be made only to candidates who complete the choice filling and locking process. The revised schedule applies to MBBS and BDS state quota seats across govt and private medical and dental colleges, institutions and medical universities in Uttar Pradesh. Download the TOI App.
