Chennai: A 40-year-old man was arrested for torching a 32-year-old woman with petrol while she was sitting outside her house at Washermanpet on Friday night. The woman suffered about 50% burns and was undergoing treatment at Kilpauk Medical College hospital.
Police said she and the culprit, M Babulal, knew each other for years, and that she had stopped speaking to him three months ago. Her husband had confronted Babulal and lodged a complaint at Washermanpet police station. An FIR was registered under sections of the BNS. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
Police traced Babulal to Nandhiyambakkam area near Minjur and arrested him on Saturday.
