Hyderabad: Telangana Congress spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin on Saturday demanded that BRS leaders KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao furnish survey-wise details of private properties they alleged were wrongly included in the Section 22A prohibited properties list, saying genuine cases would be verified and corrected.
Addressing a media conference at Gandhi Bhavan, along with Hyderabad DCC president Syed Khalid Saifullah among others, he accused the BRS of misleading people by portraying that over one crore acres covered by the prohibited list were private land.
Nizamuddin said Section 22A was not introduced by the Revanth-led govt but had been in force since 2007. He questioned why the BRS, which was in power for 10 years, had continued with the same system if it considered the restrictions improper. He claimed that when Congress assumed office in Dec 2023, about 1.02 crore acres were already covered under prohibited properties.
Bring survey numbers,” he said, adding that genuine owners could approach the govt with supporting documents. The bulk of this comprised state and central govt land, forest land, assigned land or Waqf properties and endowment land, which required protection, according to him. Nizamuddin said about four lakh acres constituted private land, and that these parcels included properties affected by court cases, govt claims and private disputes. Presenting the entire prohibited extent as farmers’ or privately owned land was misleading, he said.
Nizamuddin asked the opposition leaders to provide the district, village, survey number, extent and ownership details of properties they claimed had been wrongly included. “Do not bring hashtags.
