VC Chiranjib Bhattacharjee said, “I have decided to put up the objections that have been raised before the faculty councils as it is a statutory body. “Most of the names were suggested by RSS-linked teachers’ association, ABRSM and the VC was pressured to form the panels,” a source alleged. “The circular on PM-Usha violates the guidelines of PM-USHA set by the Union ministry of education as it states that a panel can’t be formed bypassing the highest decision-making body,” said an EC member. Kolkata: A section of Jadavpur University heads of departments, executive council (EC) members and at least two deans have written to VC, raising objections over the formation of the two committees for Institute of Eminence tag and PM-USHA scheme. They claimed that formation of the committees had not been routed through any statutory bodies such as EC, faculty councils or board of studies (BoS) of the university, urging the vice-chancellor to reconsider the decision.
