A 59-year-old sub-postmaster at HSG-2 in Ahmedabad was apprehended on Saturday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The incident occurred at the sub-post office located in Paldi. Authorities caught the individual red-handed during the operation.
The sub-postmaster had allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 from a citizen to block an order concerning an NDC parcel office, according to Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). During the initial discussions, the complainant negotiated the amount down to Rs 10,000, which the sub-postmaster allegedly accepted at the Paldi office. ACB officials confirmed that their team recovered the entire bribe amount from the accused during the surprise raid and apprehended her for further legal proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Disturbed by the continuous corruption and the unfair financial demand, the complainant approached the local office of the ACB, which then meticulously laid a trap for the sub-postmaster to catch the official in the act.
