Looter nabbed
The incident took place on Sept 17, when Chandresh Yadav and Prince Chauhan went to jeweller Anand Soni’s shop at Manjhari market under Tahbarpur police station. After selecting an eight-gram gold chain worth Rs1.10 lakh, they allegedly asked Soni for the QR code to make the payment.
Azamgarh ASP (Rural) Chirag Jain said the two arrested accused, Chandresh Yadav and Prince Chauhan , disclosed the names of their other accomplices during interrogation. A mobile phone was recovered from his possession, the ASP said. The accused was identified as Rakesh Yadav of Todarpur Rasepur. He had allegedly managed to escape when two of his accomplices were chased and caught by local traders despite the accused opening fire at the crowd. Acting on the information, police raided Rakesh Yadav’s house in Todarpur. On seeing the police, Rakesh allegedly tried to flee but was surrounded and caught. Before Soni could show them the QR code, the duo allegedly fled from the shop with the chain. When Soni and other traders in the market chased them, Chandresh allegedly opened fire. However, the two were caught by locals at Bairampur and handed over to the police. During the investigation, police learnt about the involvement of other alleged accomplices, identified as Anil, Anoop, Dharmendra, Deepak and Rajit Yadav. Police teams subsequently conducted raids at several locations across the district to trace them.
Varanasi: Police on Saturday arrested another wanted member of a gang allegedly involved in the robbery of a gold chain and firing at a jeweller in Tehbarpur on Thursday evening.
