ABVP’s Yash Dabas (M) won the DUSU president’s post, while Deepanshu Shokeen (R) was elected vice-president and Riya Chhawdi (L) won secretary’s post

NEW DELHI: ABVP retained control of Delhi University Students’ Union, winning 3 of the 4 central-panel posts. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen broke the sweep, winning the vice-president’s post.

Shokeen, an NSUI rebel, is the first independent in 17 years to win a central-panel post, becoming the biggest vote-getter of this election. ABVP’s Yash Dabas won the presidency with 24,576 votes, beating NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena by 2,053 votes. Meena polled 22,523. ABVP’s Riya Chhawdi won the secretary’s post with 21,650 votes and Lakshay Raj Singh the joint secretary’s with 16,615. It has won president’s post in at least 7of the past 10 elections.
