The theft bears similarities to earlier incidents reported at other cemeteries in Mallappally. This is the third such incident reported within the Keezhvaipur police station limits. The six-foot-long granite slab was found missing from the tomb of one Annamma Kurien. Church authorities have filed a complaint with Keezhvaipur Police. The cops are examining vehicles that passed through the area around the time of the latest theft. They are also investigating the possible involvement of any construction workers and contractors.
The police are yet to make any arrests in the earlier cases. Pathanamthitta : A granite slab installed over a grave at St Thomas Mar Thoma Church cemetery at Anicadu near Mallappally was allegedly found stolen on Sunday morning.
The graves are covered with relatively thin granite slabs, which they said require specialised handling to remove without causing damage. They suspect that the perpetrators may have knowledge of granite work.
