triplets born in 108 ambulance
Ahmedabad: An EMRI 108 ambulance turned into a makeshift delivery room on Saturday night when an expectant mother gave birth to triplets while being rushed to a hospital near Tankara in Morbi district. The ambulance driver, Suresh , and emergency medical technician (EMT) Jignasa Luhar were ferrying the woman from Rohishala village when she went into labour at around 8.48pm. EMRI officials said delivering triplets is considered a challenge even in a hospital setting, but Luhar attended to the mother inside the moving ambulance with support from medical experts at the 108 emergency response centre.
Officials said all four were stable and healthy and were recovering. With the hospital still some distance away, the emergency team had to act quickly. After the delivery, the mother and the three newborns were shifted to a hospital in Tankara for further treatment.
The mother delivered all three babies inside the ambulance.
The EMT and control-room experts monitored the mother and newborns and took steps to stabilise them before the ambulance reached the hospital.
