Doctors at Syama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital successfully removed a 3.5kg tumour from a 29-year-old woman while preserving her uterus and chances of having children
Lucknow: Doctors at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee (Civil) Hospital have successfully removed a 3.5 kg tumour from a 29-year-old woman, preserving her uterus and future fertility. She was admitted on Aug 22, and a CT scan confirmed the large mass. Doctors also found she had severe anaemia, with haemoglobin around 6.5 grams per decilitre. The operation was performed on Aug 26.
Dr Anand Mishra, head of the surgery department, said the tumour drew blood supply from the iliac vessels and was closely attached to the uterus, making removal complex and increasing the risk of heavy bleeding. Three units of blood were transfused to stabilise her condition ahead of surgery. Doctors carried out a broad ligament myomectomy, removing the mass while protecting surrounding structures. Junior residents Dr Vinod Kumar Verma and Dr Sachin Kumar assisted, with anaesthesia support from Dr SK Singh and Dr Mohammad Qasim. Hospital director Dr GP Gupta congratulated the team.
The patient, who has no children, was discharged on Saturday in stable condition.
