Anthropic is reportedly evaluating the launch of a new artificial intelligence model to compete with OpenAI’s recently introduced GPT-6 Astra. This information comes from three sources familiar with the company’s internal discussions. The potential release is timed with Anthropic’s anticipated initial public offering (IPO).
This development follows a significant essay published two weeks ago by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. In his 3,800-word piece, Amodei called for the global AI community to slow down the pace of releasing advanced models due to concerns about systemic safety risks associated with such technologies.
OpenAI rolled out GPT-6 Astra on September 3, highlighting significant leaps in autonomous computer use, coding, professional workplace tools and cybersecurity. Data tracked by corporate expense platform Ramp shows GPT-6 Astra capturing approximately 13% of monitored enterprise AI expenditures, compared to roughly 8% for Anthropic’s Claude Fable. Now, Anthropic finds itself balancing those cautionary declarations against intense market pressure, with internal teams evaluating the safety benchmarks of its next system while deliberating whether to greenlight a launch, the report noted. The launch has reportedly seen rapid adoption across corporate clients.
