Residents said they were increasingly reluctant to venture outside in the dark. Residents said frequent elephant raids have forced some families to cut down jackfruit trees while monkey menace has made it difficult to harvest coconuts. Palakkad : For the residents of Vithanassery village in Nenmara, Palakkad, stepping out of their homes after dark has become a matter of concern. The family noticed the animal after their pet dog started barking continuously and raising an alarm. When the family stepped outside and flashed lights towards the plantation, the bear reportedly ran into the nearby forest. The family managed to capture visuals of the animal on a mobile phone. They have urged the forest department to take immediate measures to ensure the safety of the people in the area. Dealing already with the frequent straying of wild elephants, residents now have another reason to be wary as a bear was spotted near a house on Sunday.
