Pune: An accused man wanted in a case registered with the Kamshet police fled after police spotted and tried to stop him near Kankwadi village, some 60km from Pune on Sunday evening.
Kamshet police constable Pratik Kamble lodged a complaint against the duo under sections 126 (wrongful restraint) and 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“When a constable signalled the driver to stop, he accelerated towards the village, overtaking other vehicles dangerously,” an officer said. Police said further investigation is underway. Police received a call around 6pm about an unregistered SUV being driven rashly. Officers rushed to the spot. When police chased the vehicle to a dead end, the driver abandoned it and fled on foot before he could be caught. He was identified as the wanted accused man. As police tried to seize and tow the car after he fled, his wife and brother arrived on a motorcycle and blocked police’s way for nearly half an hour. They threatened police personnel and the woman claimed the SUV was hers and objected to the police taking it.
