Three specialised healthcare centres inaugurated at D Y Patil Hospital in Pimpri
The hospital has 2,011 beds, 181 ICU beds, a 45-bed NICU, 32 modular operation theatres and two cardiac catheterisation laboratories. It also has round-the-clock laboratory and radiology services, robotic surgery facilities, a 24-hour dialysis unit and transplant services. The hospital caters to around 11 lakh patients annually and performs about 50,000 surgeries every year.
Public health minister Prakash Abitkar said bringing specialised services together could reduce the need for patients to travel between hospitals for critical treatment. “Healthcare is not only about advanced technology; it is also about ensuring that these services are accessible to the people who need them,” he said. Pune: Three specialised healthcare centres for organ transplantation, mother-and-child care, reproductive medicine and endoscopy were inaugurated at Dr D Y Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, on Monday.
New Healthcare Facilities to Enhance Specialized Patient Care
Three new healthcare centres have been launched: the Yashraj Prasad Patil Multi-Organ Transplant Centre of Excellence, Bhagyashree Aai & Gokul Mother & Child Centre, and the IVF & Endoscopy Center. These facilities will consolidate specialized treatments for patients, providing comprehensive care under one roof.
The Multi-Organ Transplant Centre is equipped to serve patients with complex transplant needs, particularly those facing end-stage heart and lung diseases. It features advanced medical equipment, stringent infection-control systems, and dedicated air-handling systems tailored for transplant patients. Additionally, the centre will offer medical students and postgraduate trainees hands-on experience with transplant procedures and technologies.
To date, the hospital has successfully completed over 550 organ transplants, including heart, lung, kidney, pancreas, cornea, and liver transplants. Notably, more than 50 heart and lung transplants have been conducted in the last three years.
The Bhagyashree Aai & Gokul Mother & Child Centre aims to provide comprehensive care for mothers, newborns, and children. This centre integrates maternal, neonatal, and pediatric services, covering various stages of pregnancy and childhood. Meanwhile, the IVF & Endoscopy Center focuses on reproductive health, offering fertility treatments and advanced endoscopic procedures.
