Speaking on his campaign, Mamata Trinamool candidate Rabiul Alam Chowdhury said, “I have been meeting workers across panchayat areas. Sohel Mondal – AJUP’s Yuva Morcha convener – and Anisur were key organisers of the meeting where Kabir delivered the alleged provocative speech. Kabir held an hour-long discussion in Rejinagar with Golam Nabi Azad, his son and the AJUP candidate for the Rejinagar bypoll. Reacting to the arrests, Kabir remarked, “Police are framing my party workers in false cases. I emailed the EC, to no avail. If the police have the courage, let them remove their uniforms and come fight us with saffron flags — I will show how we defeat them. “The real issues here are unemployment and lack of development. People have realised that only BJP can resolve these problems. That is why our rivals are crying foul and making excuses before their impending defeat. Democratic Trinamool Congress candidate Safiujjaman Seikh conducted street-corner meetings and door-to-door campaigning. Everyone knows Humayun has been a traitor. The arrests of Humayun Kabir ’s close aides come after Nouda MLA announced on Sunday that he would abstain from election campaigning, alleging police high-handedness and biased actions aimed at giving BJP an unfair advantage in the Rejinagar bypoll. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, BJP Rejinagar candidate Shankharav Sarkar led a roadshow in Kamnagar panchayat.
