Locals allege that adequate safety measures are not being followed at the Metro 9 construction site
Mira Road : Two days after a 23-year-old man suffered injuries after a wooden plank fell on him from the elevated Metro Line 9 construction site in Kashigaon, Kashimira police on registered a case against an employee of the project’s contractor. Police have registered a case of negligence against Kamruddin (42), the Metro project contractor’s storekeeper. The incident came a month after a safety lapse at Medetiya Nagar station of Metro Line 9, connecting Dahisar East with Mira Bhayander, when granite stones fell into a barricaded work area, with some later puncturing the tyres of a passing school van. MMRDA had slapped a Rs 10 crore fine on the contractor, J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd, and Rs 2.5 crore on two agencies.
The wooden plank had become old and was supposed to be disposed of, according to senior inspector Rajendra Kamble. Police said they will write to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which is executing the Metro project, seeking an explanation. However, it was allegedly left in the open.
