Bengaluru: The Supreme Court Tuesday stayed an order passed by Karnataka high court directing a departmental inquiry against Mohammed Mohsin, additional chief secretary to medical education department, in connection with a case involving Dr Ashwin Hebbar, associate professor at Shivamogga Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS).
An SC bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Sheel Nagu passed this order after hearing an appeal challenging the Aug 4 HC order. The bench also stayed observations by the HC in its order. However, the order directing Dr Hebbar’s suspension will remain in force until the next hearing.

The case pertains to allegations against Dr Hebbar in connection with a sexual harassment complaint. Dr Hebbar was initially suspended and subsequently reinstated and transferred to Haveri Institute of Medical Sciences. Dr Hebbar filed a petition in the high court against his suspension and transfer by the medical education department. After hearing the matter, the HC had directed that action be initiated against Mohammed Mohsin and Dr Virupakshappa, director of SIMS. Download the TOI App.
