Residents near Chikkallasandra said the stretch was handed over to Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (BSMILE) for white-topping over six months ago, but no work was taken up in the interim. In a letter to BSMILE earlier this month, BSCC said it had learnt that the work order for white-topping had also been awarded by BSMILE. “The MLA said Uttarahalli Main Road needs to be widened and that widening will not be possible if white-topping is taken up. He has given a letter to BSMILE requesting that white-topping not be taken up immediately,” the EE said. The official said BSMILE had instead been asked to undertake interim works. We will also take up patchwork on the damaged portions,” she said. BSMILE is seeking traffic police permission to carry out the works on the busy road as alternative routes are being finalised, she said, adding that the interim works, including the culvert and patchwork, would be completed within a month with cooperation from the police.
Bengaluru: A section of Dr Vishnuvardhan Road connecting Banashankari to Uttarahalli has been neglected for over six months while awaiting white-topping. Now, the white-topping itself is in doubt as plans to widen the road have put the project on hold, leaving pedestrians and commuters to deal with potholes, missing footpaths and waterlogging. Recent rains have worsened its condition, with dust, garbage and debris accumulating along the roadside and clogging drains. The narrow stretch, which is also a BMTC bus route, is riddled with potholes. The nearly one-km stretch is lined by apartment complexes including Brigade Residency and Sobha Clovelly, and institutions such as Prarthana School, Kumaran’s PU College, Deccan International School, Ashrama School and Nettakallappa Aquatic Centre. Dhruv N Koundinya, a citizen, highlighted the issue in an Instagram reel addressed to Bengaluru development minister Krishna Byre Gowda, alleging that officials were passing the responsibility between agencies. “This road has been in the same condition for around six months. In a meeting with Bengaluru South City Corporation officials, we learnt that the road had been transferred to BSMILE for white-topping. Even after knowing that lakhs of commuters use this road, why was it not repaired?” he questioned. It requested the agency to take up the work at the earliest and repair the road to make it motorable in the interim. “The BSCC executive engineer asked us to desilt the drain to avoid waterlogging.
