Granite baron R Veeramani who was arrested in relation to a Pocso
Chennai: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a long-time aide of granite baron and head of Gem Granites, Veeramani, who was arrested on Aug 29 on charges of raping a minor girl. Ganesan had worked with Veeramani’s Gem Granites for 23 years and is currently employed with Balaji Global enterprises, police said. The three were arrested on Aug 29 and remanded in Puzhal Central prison. Veeramani, was arrested on Aug 29 after a USB drive containing a video clip that purportedly showed a juvenile girl being sexually assaulted by him in Oct 2025. Police said they identified the survivor and established that she was a minor when the alleged offence took place in 2019.
The arrested accused, Ganesan, shall be the fourth suspect in the Pocso Act case involving the sexual abuse of minor girls. Police found that Ganesan had video clippings on his mobile phone purportedly showing Veeramani in an obscene act with a minor girl but failed to inform police about it. During further investigation, police identified Ganesan, who had been closely associated with Veeramani for several years. Investigators are now probing the source of the video and the circumstances under which he retained it without alerting the authorities. Police are also examining his mobile phone to ascertain if he had deleted any data. Police are examining bank transactions and the possible use of intermediaries in the movement of funds.
Earlier, the Anti-Vice Squad (AVS) had registered a case against Veeramani and two of his accomplices, in connection with the rape of minor girls. The investigation has also widened into suspected financial transactions made in an attempt to influence the earlier investigation.
