Varanasi: Member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Parth Biswas, and director of the commission Uttam Prakash, visited Banaras Hindu University on Monday and interacted with teachers, non-teaching staff and students.
Prof Chaturvedi said that around 300 teachers from the Scheduled Caste community are working at the university.
At the meeting, BHU vice-chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said it was a matter of pride for the university community that a person associated with the field of education was serving as a member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes. He said open dialogue is essential for understanding issues related to rules and laws, and the experience and knowledge of commission members can help in finding solutions. The discussions focused on issues concerning the Scheduled Caste community, facilities available at the university, status of posts, and matters related to teachers, employees and students. He added that, given the significant participation of the community at BHU, continuous efforts should be made to achieve excellence in every field. Parth Biswas referred to the compilation of data and information related to the university. During the interaction, Scheduled Caste students shared concerns related to fee payment at the time of admission, scholarships, academic guidance, counselling and support. Biswas also visited university hostels and interacted with students to understand their requirements and experiences. He met students enrolled under the Dr Ambedkar Centre of Excellence Scheme. The commission members expressed satisfaction with the activities being undertaken at the university for students and employees of the SC category.
