The EC counsel submitted that the envelope symbol had been given to ISF for two usages and that an “unrecognised political party doesn’t have the right to hold the symbol”. The counsel sought more time from the court. Representing ISF, senior advocate Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya submitted, “It’s a recognised political party which has been contesting elections with an envelope symbol. This time, ISF is contesting the same bypoll and you suddenly give our symbol to another party, while deciding to address the internal dispute of a party… Is it a reasonable exercise of power?”
Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Wednesday questioned Election Commission on allocating the same symbol to two political parties after ISF challenged the handing over of the ‘envelope’ symbol to Democratic Trinamool Congress for the bypolls.
