More than 22,000 police personnel, including senior officers, will fan out across city streets on the last day of Ganeshotsav to ensure the festival remains incident-free. Twenty roads will be made one-way and 84 roads will be closed to vehicular traffic on Friday. Between 7,000 and 9,000 sarvajanik Ganpati idols will be heading for immersion on Friday. Around 18,900 police constables will be on duty besides six joint commissioners, nine additional commissioners, 38 deputy commissioners, 66 assistant commissioners and 3,213 police officers.
Missing person teams will be active at crowded locations to look for anyone reported lost or missing.
“Girgaum Chowpatty will be a key immersion point and we will be putting up a large screen there,” said joint commissioner, traffic, Satya Narayan. “Special units like Force One, Riot Control, Quick Response Teams, Rapid Action Force, Special Reserve Police Force will also be roped in,” said joint commissioner, law and order, Manoj Kumar Sharma. AI-enabled cameras will watch routes taken by processions and give real-time status of major mandals. Cameras with facial recognition tech will identify habitual offenders whose images have already been fed into the database. Police have written to Railways and Mumbai Metro to operate services throughout the night for revellers. Among the routes closed will be Nathalal Parekh Marg, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road, JSS Road, P D’mello Road from Kaklij Junction to Wadi Bunder Junction, DB Marg, Nandita Ramabai Marg, LBS Road from Kamani Junction to Kurla depot, Veer Savarkar Road from Yes Bank signal to Siddhivinayak Road, etc. Diversions and alternative routes have been provided. Public address systems have been put up and lifeguards posted at major immersion points at Girgaum Chowpatty, Juhu, Versova, Dadar, Madh, etc. He added there are natural immersion points where police will be posted. Drones will surveil important immersion locations. Women’s safety remains a key focus with female officers, both in uniform and plainclothes, stationed on roads and at immersion locations. Police will have also issued prohibitory orders against photographing immersed idols and posting pictures on social media.
Mumbai: Artificial Intelligence (AI) will help Mumbai Police keep an eye on movement of processions on Anant Chaturdashi on Friday as well as flag any criminal elements.
