Prayagraj : Allahabad High Court has acquitted a woman who had been sentenced to death for the alleged murder of her three children, holding that the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Court Acquits Uncle in Child’s Death Case
In a recent ruling, the court acquitted the children’s uncle, who had faced allegations of being the paramour and accomplice of the woman involved in the case. Priyanka, the accused, received a death sentence from the trial court, while Ashish was sentenced to life imprisonment. Both have appealed the verdict in the high court.
The case gained attention when the surviving child reported the incident to investigators, claiming that a village pradhan had rescued him and taken him home. He stated that he informed his uncle, Manish, who then registered the First Information Report (FIR) with the police.
However, Manish’s testimony contradicted the child’s account. He claimed that the village pradhan had alerted the police about the deaths and that he learned of the incident through the pradhan, not the child. Manish also stated he was unaware of who initially informed him about the situation.
Allegations of Familial Motive in Child Deaths
Ashish, the younger brother of the deceased husband, has been implicated in a case involving the tragic deaths of three children. The prosecution claims that Ashish and the children’s mother were engaged in an illicit relationship and sought to eliminate the children to continue their affair.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused allegedly attempted to drown all four children. While the eldest son managed to survive, the other three children did not survive the incident.
The case relates to the deaths of three children, aged six, five and four years, whose bodies were recovered from Sengur river in Auraiya on June 27, 2024.
