Ahmedabad: A national-level meeting on “inflammatory myositis”, an autoimmune disease that affects muscles, was organised at NHL Municipal Medical College in Ahmedabad, bringing together nearly 175 doctors, researchers, trainee physicians and students from across the country. The meeting was jointly hosted by the Myo-In Society of India and the Rheumatology Association of Gujarat. Renowned medical experts from India and abroad provided guidance on the latest medical developments and research related to myositis. Inflammatory myositis is an autoimmune condition in which the body’s immune system attacks its own muscles. It can cause muscle weakness, particularly in proximal parts of the body such as arms and thighs. During the opening session, two specialised training workshops were conducted on measuring disease activity and assessing pathological changes in the muscles of affected patients. Subsequent scientific sessions featured presentations by experts on various aspects of inflammatory myositis. Discussions were also held on a proposed national registry to compile data and insights on the disease from across India. Case discussions were conducted, while trainee doctors and students presented research papers and posters. Patients shared their experiences and raised questions about their illness, treatment and other concerns. Expert doctors from the Rheumatology department addressed their queries and provided detailed guidance.
