Varanasi: A case was registered against a woman police constable and the supervisor of a Child Care Helpline centre in Ballia after a 16-year-old girl from Bihar’s Vaishali district escaped from the facility.
The girl was recovered around 2:15 am on the intervening night of Sep 18 and 19 from Sumeranpur in the Bairia area by SI Sunil Yadav and head constable Sinki Gond. The girl escaped from the centre at 11:15 am on Sep 20 through a toilet window, according to police.
Police said the case was lodged late Monday night at Ballia city police station following a complaint by district probation officer Amarendra Kumar Pautsyayan. Constable Reema, posted at Bairia police station, and Shilpa , supervisor of the Child Care Helpline centre, were named as accused. She was later handed over to the Child Care Helpline centre located in the Okdenganj police outpost area of the district headquarters. Constable Reema and supervisor Shilpa were on duty at the time, it was stated in the report.
