Hyderabad: Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG-SAFE) found several food safety and hygiene violations during inspections of 15 restaurants and food establishments across Hyderabad’s core urban region on Thursday. Eight enforcement teams comprising food safety officials and police personnel conducted the checks and collected 16 food samples for suspected adulteration.
At Pakwan Grand in Raidurg, officials found 1,170 kg of expired rice and 45 kg of noodles with labelling defects. Officials reported cockroach and rodent infestations at several establishments, along with rat droppings, spoiled vegetables, fungal contamination and expired food products. Poor hygiene among food handlers, improper storage of prepared food, unclean utensils and refrigerators, greasy exhausts and chimneys and poorly maintained kitchens were also reported.
Spoiled eggs, rusty refrigerators and prepared food stored in refrigerators were also found. At Godavari Ghumaghumalu in Hafeezpet, officials found worm-infested brinjals, expired food products and rodent infestation. TG SAFE also found heavy cockroach infestation and food articles contaminated with fungal growth at some establishments.

At Sri Krishna Family Dhaba in Gopanpally, food handlers were allegedly found chewing gutka, while Vaishnavi Darshini in Begum Bazaar had food with fungal contamination and poor storage practices. Lucky Restaurant in Pragathi Nagar was closed for operating without an FSSAI licence amid heavy cockroach infestation and unhygienic conditions. FSSAI licences of eight establishments were suspended, while improvement notices will be issued to five others. A show-cause notice will also be issued to Asaa Neo Indian Kitchen in Puppalaguda.
