Gorakhpur : The North Eastern Railway (NER) has launched a special campaign to ensure the availability of safe drinking water for railway passengers and employees across its network.
Residual chlorine and bacteriological tests were conducted at 204 stations and 115 railway colonies under the Varanasi division, according to NER officials. In the Izzatnagar division, 47 residual chlorine tests were carried out, with all samples found to be within the prescribed standards. In Lucknow division, 119 residual chlorine tests and two bacteriological tests were conducted at 12 major stations and four railway colonies.

NER CPRO Sumit Kumar said as part of the campaign, health inspectors are conducting regular inspections of water tanks, coolers, taps, filters, distribution points and pipelines at railway stations and residential colonies. The drive includes residual chlorine tests, bacteriological culture tests and chemical analysis to monitor the quality of drinking water, he said. Officials said all samples met the required quality standards. Railway authorities said immediate corrective measures were being taken wherever adverse test results were detected. Officials said regular monitoring of drinking water quality was being carried out to ensure that passengers and railway employees receive safe water in accordance with prescribed standards.
Samples were also collected for six bacteriological culture tests. The campaign will continue across stations, colonies and offices under NER until the required testing and necessary improvements are completed. Download the TOI App.
