Two drivers were killed following a head-on collision between a container truck and a pickup loader.
Police identified the pickup driver as Kuldeep Awasthi (40), a resident of Raipur village in Patara area. Sachendi police took both vehicles into custody and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Bidhnu police station in-charge Tej Bahadur Singh said the bodies were being sent for postmortem after the families were informed. Further action would be taken on the basis of a complaint, he said. The impact trapped both drivers in their badly damaged vehicles. Police and local residents pulled them out and took them by ambulance to Bidhnu Community Health Centre, where doctors declared them dead. Efforts were under way to identify the container driver. Residents and passers-by reached the site after hearing the crash, alerted police and began rescue work.
