Kolkata: The West Bengal State Election Commission (SEC) is in favour of holding elections to seven civic bodies, including the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC), with only state police personnel deployed for security, a senior commission official said on Friday.
The election notification is likely to be issued before Oct 31. “The process of sending EVMs to the districts concerned has started, and the first-level checking (FLC) of EVMs is scheduled from Sept 29 to Oct 6. The process of reservation of seats is underway and is scheduled to be finally published on Oct 7 for KMC and HMC and Oct 6 for other municipalities,” a senior SEC official said. The electoral roll updated by the EC till July 1 will be adopted in the first week of Oct, with its draft publication in the second week and final publication in the first week of Nov. More than 37,000 polling personnel will be required for 6,301 polling booths across the seven civic bodies.
