Dindigul district police on Thursday arrested eight people including two police constables for cheating Rs48 lakh from a man under the guise of selling an auspicious, expensive gold plate.

Paul contacted Nagaraj on the phone and informed him that police had taken away the gold plate. Thereafter, Sankaramoorthy, Nagaraj, Karuppaiah, Suresh, Muthupandi, Kuppusamy, Thangaraj and Kathiresan divided the Rs48 lakh among themselves. When Paul came to know about this, he asked them to return the money, but they didn’t. Learning that he was cheated, Paul lodged a complaint with Dindigul district superintendent of police (SP), S Jeyakumar. Based on the order of SP, a special team was constituted to nab the accused. They were remanded in judicial custody.
