Mysuru police perform puja to cannons at the Mysuru Palace Friday
Mysuru: With the countdown to Mysuru Dasara 2026 under way, traditional worship was performed for the historic cannon carriages at Mysuru Palace on Friday, marking the beginning of preparations for the ceremonial 21-gun salute during the Vijayadashami procession. The rituals were performed for 11 cannon carriages stationed near the Ane Bagilu (Elephant Gate) of the palace. The 21 rounds will be fired as the chief minister and other dignitaries shower flowers on Goddess Chamundeshwari seated in the Golden Howdah atop the howdah elephant. The national anthem will be played simultaneously, with all 21 rounds fired before the anthem concludes. Rehearsal drills A 35-member Mysuru city armed reserve (CAR) police team, led by ACP Somashekar, will commence rehearsal drills to ensure that the gun salute is executed with precision and synchronised with the proceedings of the procession.

The rehearsals will be held at Dasara Exhibition Ground from next week. Seven of them will be deployed for the gun salute exercise, with each cannon firing three rounds. The rehearsals will also help Dasara elephants and horses acclimatise to the sound of the cannon fire. Mysuru police commissioner Seema Latkar performed the puja. DCPs Harsha Priyamvada and Sundar Raj, CAR DCP Siddanagouda Y Patil and other senior police officers were present. Download the TOI App.
