Ahmedabad: The Gujarat unit of the Congress party said on Friday that five students died by suicide in Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara over the past eight days, terming the trend as a “growing crisis among students and young people in the state”. “This situation is a serious concern for the education system, mental health and employment prospects of young people,” he said, demanding that govt implement a time-bound action plan to check student suicides. Doshi said there is a need to reduce the cost of education, ensure timely recruitment and employment opportunities after graduation, and strengthen career guidance and mental health support for students.
