“Our objection is not against shopping facilities, but against taking away the only sizeable park available to the residents,” Gahlot said. NEW DELHI: Residents of the Narmada-Saraswati housing complex in Vasant Kunj staged a protest on Friday against the proposed development of a Local Shopping Centre (LSC) on a park site, alleging that the move would deprive hundreds of families of their only sizeable recreational space.
The RWA said that excavation had recently begun at the site. Residents, including a large number of women, gathered at the spot and stopped the excavation work after a JCB arrived, according to Gahlot.
Gahlot claimed that around 300-400 trees could be affected and said the park is currently used for children’s activities, senior citizens’ recreation and community events.
